On June 26, 2025, I graduated from the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. Bellow is some documentation of my graduate work, exhibited at TENT.

Through experimental animation and digital compositing, the film constructs a disorienting visual landscape shaped by dissociation, humor, and distortion to press the limits of possibility. Along the way, Vial encounters a series of characters who cling to dogmatic certainty in the face of precarity. Against them, Vial wields contradiction, softness, and nonsense as modes of resistance. Drawing from queer aesthetics, apophatic philosophy, and classical theatre tropes, "The Summit" reflects on how we can make ourselves understood when dominant systems of sense-making collapse.

The Summit: (as it were): the bottom of my hole

Vial moves in endless loops. He is in search of "The Limit", the threshold that marks the gate to the "Land Beyond the Lexicon". He knows just as well that as soon as he finds it, he'll need to begin again. Nonetheless, he walks through Rotterdam's widened streets, using his powers of observation and the gifts of language to guide him.
The Summit: (as it were): the bottom of my hole is a video work that follows Vial, a fluid outcast, on a mythic journey to a site beyond the constructs and limitations of language and structure. Set against a backdrop of urban unreality, the film explores the psychological and spiritual implications of life under colonial-capitalism, where language and meaning are rapidly disintegrating under the threat of commodification.

After Liquidation takes form in the aftermath of a deconstructive reckoning: a performance of reparative gestures. Follow a "logic" or many to their utmost conclusions. Watch your head or it may spin off.
Here in the garden of precarity, the magician must take the road of most resistance, where doing things the wrong way may spark the possibility of stumbling onto something new.
Hands caress the harbinger bedsprings of uncertain dreams. The mystic temple has collapsed. Turned to liquid and lively matter. "Rejoice! Rejoice!" the angels sing. And you might as well for now. For just as soon as one learns to surf, the ink is sure to dry.
